WHAT IS CHRISTMAS COMPLETE?
Christmas Complete is set up to provide toys and gifts to disadvantaged children and young people who otherwise may not receive presents on Christmas Day. Everyone we help is referred by our trusted referral agents to ensure there is a genuine need.
Thank you to those who supported our annual toy project. In December 2018 we were able to provide a parcel of toys and gifts for 1866 children and young people, ranging from babies up to 17 year olds.
You can help ensure the project continues in 2019 by donating now.
We are seeking donations of toys, gifts and finance. Particular items that we need are: -
- Games & Puzzles
- Age relevant toys & gifts (Babies up to 17 years old). Construction kits are excellent for older children
- Colouring books (including adult colouring books), blank pads of paper, pencils, crayons & felt tip pens etc.
- Sweets & Chocolate (with a sell by date of at least end Jan 2020)
- Art & Craft sets
- Gifts for teenagers – toiletries, stationary etc.
- Wrapping paper & sellotape
- Sturdy cardboard boxes
- Batteries (various sizes)
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE DO NOT ACCEPT GUNS OR ANY WAR TYPE TOYS
We require new items with the exception of books, games and puzzles when we will happily receive excellent quality second hand.
Any other second hand toys will be sold through our shop to raise ongoing finance for SCRATCH.
Our target is to raise £10,000 to cover our operating costs (which include hire of premises, staff time, admin, stationery, packaging, vehicle hire and fuel) and to enable us to purchase items when we have shortages for particular age groups (often girls 10 plus and teenage boys)
WHAT DOES EACH CHILD RECEIVE?
- Teddy Bear / Soft Toy
- 2 or 3 books
- 2 or 3 age relevant toys
- Colouring books / paper / pens / colouring pencils etc.
- Art / Craft set
- Sweets / Chocolate
In addition, we include a puzzle where there is just a single child or for a larger family we include a game.
We don’t wrap the gifts but include paper and tape in the parcel so that the parents / guardian can see what we have provided and wrap the presents themselves which we hope gives a sense of ownership.
The parcels are adjusted accordingly for babies, toddlers and teenagers.
We want to get to the position of being able to provide all new toys and gifts so that we can value those children and young people who are disadvantaged through no fault of their own.
Are there other ways you can help?
Yes, there are. Volunteers are needed in December to help sort and package the parcels for all the families that are referred. Details will be available on here from late October. Do book your slot early to avoid disappointment.
“Thank you for letting me choose gifts for children who have little. I love considering each child’s gifts relating to their age, needs and place in the family and am very grateful for the opportunity to help in any way possible”. A 2018 volunteer.
We are also looking for people to help pre-sort donations from October onwards. These would need to be during week day working hours. Please get in contact if you can help - email@example.com
In 2018 we dealt with referrals for families living in Southampton, Winchester, Eastleigh, Basingstoke, Fareham, Gosport, Farnborough and other areas across Hampshire.
"Thank you so much for the lovely presents for my daughter, they are brilliant."
“I would like to say thank you to everyone involved for the Christmas Complete toys, gifts this year from SCRATCH. They were all well received and have made such a difference to the parents who have children currently living in temporary accommodation”. Winchester City Council.
“Firstly, a massive thankyou from myself and my boys J & Z. This year has been challenging for us with moving to a new house and having to claim universal credit which means I get no payment in December until 27th of the month. I had been feeling quite sad about the shortage of gifts this year for my boys and you have made our Christmas thank you so much.”
"Once again, I cannot thank you and your team enough. We have some very happy parents who have had a great deal of stress lifted!"
"My name is John I live in the council temporary accommodation in Winchester. Your charity sent boxes of Christmas gifts for my daughters and provided furniture for when we moved here. I would just like to say many, many thanks."
